Ex-Military Commander in Canada Is Charged With Obstruction of Justice
The criminal charges against the former chief of the defense staff came out of an investigation into sexual misconduct.,
OTTAWA — Canada’s former top military officer, who is under investigation for sexual misconduct, was charged with obstruction of justice on Thursday, a branch of the country’s military police said.
The charge against Gen. Jonathan Vance, the former chief of the defense staff, was laid under criminal law rather than through the military justice system and will be heard in a civilian court rather than as a court-martial, Canadian Forces National Investigation Service said in a statement.
While it provided no specifics about the charge, the agency said that it was related to its investigation of the sexual misconduct allegations involving General Vance.
